How to connect a drive IDE (DVD-ROM, HD, etc) to a plate base without port (only SATAS) IDE
Using an IDE-USB adapter we have been able to "recycle" the IDE recorder |
But if we have such an old DVD burner IDE 3.5 '' that we want to continue to use (are not the times to pull something that works), no we have no choice but to, or pay more for a plate with those ports, or place an IDE to USB adapter that will allow us this functionality permanently for € 4 (saving us the €30 that costs new recorder or reader).
As we saw in a previous post, SATA/IDE to USB adapters are very practical; this one is for 3.5 "and 2.5" IDE port SATA, and who had saved for when you need to connect hard disks without opening the computer:
You can buy them on Ebay from 3.99 shipping included in Spain |
We only need to do this a plate USB connector basis, I think that it will be more difficult (although you can use the in a box of some computers that go to waste); I for example obtained by cutting of the 1394 Firewire connections (in the first picture cut gray wires) that they shall not be used for anything, and solder wires red, white, green and black of the USB adapter into the corresponding positions to leave it permanently connected to the plate:
In the following image, the adapter connected and running; even though I had to slightly cut the connector of the power supply on the left side:
